Who are hair extensions for?

Hair extensions at SIMEHA Institut are for people who want to gain length, volume or both, without waiting for their hair to grow. Strands are fixed to your own hair, close to the root.

People choose them after a cut that turned out too short, to thicken fine hair, for a wedding, or to change their look for a season. An extension fitting needs preparing: the length, the number of strands and the colour are decided before the appointment.

That is why we advise you to ask your questions on WhatsApp before you book. You will know what the fitting price includes and what to plan for the hair itself.

Three fitting techniques

We offer three hair extension techniques: keratin bonds, micro rings and American-style. All three take 2 h and cost CHF 200.

Micro ring extensions2 hCHF 200

Keratin bond extensions

With keratin, each strand has a keratin bond at its tip. This bond is heated and then rolled around a small section of your own hair, where it hardens. In general, keratin bond extensions last 3 to 4 months, depending on hair growth and aftercare.

Micro ring extensions

With micro rings, each strand is fixed by a small ring that is clamped onto the hair. There is no glue and no heat. The rings can generally be moved back up once the hair has grown.

American-style extensions

The American-style fitting is the third technique we offer, at the same price. The beautician explains how it differs from the other two and which hair it suits.

How do you choose your technique?

To choose a hair extension technique, start from your hair type and the time you want to spend on aftercare. The beautician looks at your hair before advising you.

A few general pointers:

  • fine hair copes badly with heavy attachments: the size of the strands matters as much as the technique;
  • keratin gives discreet attachment points;
  • micro rings avoid heat and glue;
  • whatever the technique, your hair must be long enough to hide the attachments.

We go into wear and aftercare in the guide how long do keratin extensions last.

What happens during a fitting at SIMEHA Institut?

An extension fitting at the salon takes 2 h. It has three stages: preparing the hair, fitting strand by strand, then checking the whole result with you.

The beautician divides your hair into rows, starting from the nape of the neck. She fixes the strands one by one, a few millimetres from the root so that the attachment does not pull on the scalp. At the end, she checks that the attachments are invisible when your hair is down.

Tips before and after the fitting

Before an extension fitting, come with clean, dry hair, with no rich product in it. After the fitting, brush your hair gently every day and avoid applying rich products to the attachments.

Before your appointment:

  • wash your hair the day before or that morning, with no mask or oil;
  • decide on the length and the look you want;
  • mention a sensitive scalp or any current hair loss.

After your appointment:

  • wait a day or two, in general, before the first shampoo;
  • brush while holding the root, from the ends upwards;
  • apply products to the lengths, never to the attachments;
  • tie your hair back to sleep;
  • do not remove the extensions yourself.
